ULost Web Directory

First Phase Almost Complete

As the first phase of this website development is wrapping up, I need to ask myself, what is the next step for the ULost Web Directory. I had originally planned for the website to feature tons of links and categories so that it can become a good alternative for the DMOZ open directory. I now know that its not what I want the ULost directory to be.

I would rather have the directory have a smaller number of more useful links than a huge mess of links that force the user to sift through all the junk to find a rare jewel. But this is just one small piece of the equation. There needs to be something greater that can set this directory apart from others found on the web.

One option that I've considered is to provide a rating to each of the sites in the directory and allow the users to vote on which site they like the best. So far, I can't conceive of any fair way of creating a voting system that doesn't involve registering a user with a unique e-mail address and forcing them to login to vote. Even if it were possible, I don't know that it would be all that useful to have rankings for all of the sites.

I am going to put on my creative thinking cap and brainstorm some ideas to further the development of this site. There are always new ways to organize information and help users find what they are looking for. The trick is to develop something revolutionary that changes the way that users search for information online.
